My Other Mother

Simply that really,

Lovely Colleen treated me exactly the same as her own girls when the Family Brown came to stay on St. Agnes in “Shop Flat”. My own patents simply transferred all responsibility for me to Colleen and Eric for the duration of the Family Brown’s two week annual holiday. I think my own mum and dad were quite happy to have the rest!

Mr and Mrs Brown (not Eric and Colleen til much later) were kind and generous to me and after a long time of not seeing them, to see them again just a few years ago was like stepping back in time.  Sadly when “Other Dad” Eric was lost, I came to his funeral. Colleen was as bright and beautiful as she had been on those wonderful family holidays. It was the last time I saw her. We had spoken on the phone and exchanged cards but I didn’t see her again - to my great regret.

So bless you dear, beautiful, kind lady. The wisdom of my youth!  Enjoy your time with that lovely man of yours, and in the blink of an eye, just around the corner from where we are now, you’ll both be strolling down the quay on St Agnes to catch the tripper boat to St.Marys for a bit of shopping, a look in the Foredeck and home in time for a swim and barby on Pereglis before the sun sets.

Love always, your other daughter xxxxx
